FAQ
Being answers to a range of useful-ish questions regarding Pebble Geo.
What's the roadmap for Pebble Geo
Take a look at the roadmap page to find out what we're working on.
Can I get a demo
Yes of course, we'd love to show you exactly how Pebble Geo can work for your busienss with a quick demo. No hassle, no sales pressure. Head to the contact page.
Are there any additional costs or fees
No, the prices shown are all that you'll pay. We're aware that some providers charge a sort of minimum base subscription fee (typically of the 4-figure variety, and often in fine print). We don't do that.
Can I try Pebble Geo for free
Yes, we offer a free 14-day trial of both Web and Desktop. You can try all of the features, but your PDF outputs will just have a watermark added. You don't need to have a call with us to set the trial up either, it's low hassle.
You can also play with the web version right away.
Can I upgrade during my license
Yes, you can upgrade to a larger team license at any time. We'll just pro-rate the difference for the duration of your existing license.
I've bought Pebble Geo, where is my Desktop license key
You can always find your desktop license key here web.pebblegeo.com/app/desktopkey.html
Is support included
Yes. All users within your team can get in touch with us for help and advice. See the contact page for how to get in touch.
Are software updates included
Yes. We update Pebble Geo Desktop about every month, and it doesn't cost extra. You don't have to upgrade every time, but you can if you want. The install should not affect your license key.
I'm not in the UK, can I still buy / use Pebble Geo
We can accept payment by credit card in a range of currencies, but we'll need to provide a custom quote for you. Please get in touch
Right now our web portal only displays borehole locations on the map using in British National Grid, although we are planning to add more EPSG codes to our system.
Everything else will work, but please be aware that the data logging and PDF outputs are based on standard UK practice.
What's the difference between Standard and Plus+
Standard is a slightly simpler version of Pebble Geo that is only available at the Small Team product tier. It has restricted data capability and it's for those who only need to produce PDF logs and cross-sections.
Standard allows you to input borehole data (using Excel). You can also import AGS files. You can also export CSV files.
Plus+ adds support for (1) exporting AGS files, (2) merging AGS files, (3) generating lab schedules, (4) editing and re-importing data in CSV format.
Does Pebble Geo have a central database
No. But, we're working on it. For the moment though, data management is all file-based in Pebble Geo.
Can I make copies of the Excel template
Yes. You can make as many copies as you like and distribute them however you wish.
Can I customize the PDF log templates
Not at the moment, no. Pebble Geo is designed for simplicity and cost-effectiveness, so we don't have complex template editors. Here's an example of our templates.
I'm switching from another software, what should I do with my legacy projects
Before relinquishing the license for your old borehole software just make sure to export all of your projects to AGS 4 (ideally AGS 4.0.4) and put the data files in a safe place. These files will work in Pebble Geo.
If your existing software doesn't support AGS, try exporting as CSV or Excel.
Are the team size tiers based on 'concurrent' users
No. The team size tiers are the maximum number of named users registered on the system. Named users are defined by their email address.
Can I change which users are included in my license
Yes. You'll need to get in touch to let us know which user(s) you want adding and removing.
Can I add users from outside of my company
No. Each user must be registered in the system with an email address belonging to your company, group or partnership.
What are the system requirements for Pebble Geo Desktop
Pebble Geo Desktop is Windows-only software, so it won't install on a Mac. Other than that, there aren't really any minimum requirements. In fact, we're pretty confident it would run on Windows 95 if you really needed it to.
Help, I can't install Pebble Geo Desktop!
Depending on the security settings of your PC/Laptop, and those of your organisation, you might be blocked from installing Pebble Geo. If you have a system administrator you should ask them how to proceed, and they might need to temporarily disable your security software during the install.
If your IT policy is very restrictive, there's always the web version of Pebble Geo, which requires no installation.
Where is your web version hosted
Our Pebble Geo web application is hosted on our own dedicated servers. Our web portal and geotechnical data infrastructure is all hosted in the UK, and is nothing to do with any of the big commercial 'cloud' vendors like AWS or Azure. When you upload data to Pebble Geo web it only ever resides on Pebble Geo infrastructure.
This means you're 100% guaranteed that your confidential geotechincal and geo-environmental data will never be harvested and re-purposed by AIs or LLMs...
...just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you. We're more than a little bit wary of those sneaky big boys and those AI cloud startups too.
What happens to my data when I upload to the web version
Because we haven't finished building a project database yet, at the moment any data uploaded to our servers will be automatically deleted when you log off, or after two hours of inactivity in your session.
Are there data limits
Pebble Geo can easily handle large projects and print PDFs that run to hundreds of pages. The Excel data input template does limit you to 500 boreholes for a single project, but there is no limit for imported AGS files.
